The Future Looks Bright For Ipswich Town.

The very first blog from legend of The Gambling Corner podcast Liam Doe writes his first piece for our blog on a topic he knows well, his beloved Ipswich Town.

Liam has followed Town home and away for many years now, so there are few better to pen such an article on the new found enthusiasm coming from Portman Road…

2 wins from 2 for Kieran McKenna’s new look Ipswich Town who look far more comfortable than at the end of Paul Cooks reign.

I for one was surprised to say the least when Mr Cook was let go by town as it was hard to see a better man for the job at that level.

It is early days but KM seems to have a real sense of knowhow and swagger about him which I love already.

Since the young gaffer has come in Ipswich have scored 5 and are yet to concede.

He’s brought the character which is James Norwood back and young Suffolk star Woolfenden who has looked solid and contributed to the 2 clean sheets.

As for James Norwood you either love him or hate him but whatever your feelings may be, he must be a nightmare to play against and the bloke scores goals.

I like the fact town now have the Bash Brothers up front as they seem to work well together and have a good relationship off the pitch too.

If you’ve seen Ipswich in action this year its looked really good in spells but at times they’ve seemed to have no plan B.

Having the two up front does unfortunately mean a couple stars miss out such as Celina (currently injured) and Chaplin but it gives them so many more options for when playing out from the back isn’t on, you know Norwood and Bonne can win headers as well as chase down any balls into channels.

I was going to put a piece together about the star men currently for Town but it’s hard to name just one.

Wes Burns seems to change the team completely when he’s available, Sam Morsy looks a class above in the middle of the park and I feel is a bit under appreciated at times by Town fans.

George Edmunson is far too good for League One (say it quietly) and Sone Aluko really seems to be coming into his own and has discovered that on his day can destroy opposition players at this level and probably higher.

We could tell the squad is the best it’s been for a long time since the summer transfer window but now they’ve had time to gel as well as a new man bringing a confident outlook.

I feel like this second half of the season could be a real exciting one for town fans.

The club is selling out away allocations for fun and there seems to be excitement in the air.

25 games played and being 8 points off the play off places isn’t ideal but I really don’t think it’s the worst spot to be in.

I hope they go and sign Christian Walton and Macauley Bonne on permanent deals to really show where they want to be next season because the squad is plenty good enough to push on next year in the Championship especially with the resources available at McKenna’s disposal.

But for now, I feel confident in saying the future looks bright at Portman Road and a play-off place is still well within touch with how the McKenna reign has started.

Cheers, Liam
